Grimsby Golf Club Junior Section

Inspiring the Next Generation at Grimsby Golf Club

When PGA Professional Karl Worby became Head Professional at Grimsby Golf Club, he made it his mission to rejuvenate the Junior Section — creating opportunities for young golfers to learn, play, and grow in a fun and supportive environment.

Today, Grimsby’s junior section is thriving, with nearly 70 enthusiastic young members taking part in regular lessons, family-focused events, and exciting competitions. Under Karl’s expert guidance, children are introduced to golf in an encouraging, inclusive way — whether they’re picking up a club for the first time or already showing great potential.

“I want children to come because they enjoy it — not because they’re being made to,” says Karl.

This prestigious recognition reflects our sustained commitment to developing young golfers, fostering not only on-course skills but also the values of respect, confidence, and capability that the game instils.

We are exoanding our junior section to provide an inclusive, supportive pathway where every young player can thrive and enjoy their golf.

Family-Focused and Community Driven

Grimsby Golf Club is built on family values and community spirit. The introduction of the Chaperone Membership allows parents to play nine holes alongside their child for just £200 a year, offering a brilliant way to share quality time together on the course.

Behind the scenes, a dedicated junior committee and the fantastic support of members have helped raise more than £2,000 in sponsorship, ensuring the section continues to grow. With creative coaching, fun challenges, and family-friendly events, Karl and his team are helping to build a lasting foundation for junior golf at the club.

“We do need to move with the times — and certainly, the junior section is the way forward.”

Our Junior Strategy

At Grimsby Golf Club we are committed to creating a safe, fun, and inclusive environment that teaches golf fundamentals, develops skills, and fosters a lifelong love for the game, delivering coaching and facilities for all skill levels, with the emphasis on delivering a positive experience for
every junior, regardless of background.

While learning and improving are part of the journey, performance is not the end goal. We place far greater value on teaching the qualities that golf naturally inspires, honesty, respect, sportsmanship, and perseverance—lessons that matter both on and off the course.

Our coaching helps young golfers learn how to focus, set simple goals, and reflect on their play in a positive way. This approach encourages them to handle challenges with confidence and enjoy the ups and downs that come with learning something new.

Training sessions are always age-appropriate and designed to keep juniors engaged—from fun movement-based activities and basic swing skills, all the way to more advanced techniques for full swings, chipping, and putting as they grow. We bring learning to life through enjoyable games, mini-
challenges, and light-hearted competitions that build confidence at their own pace.

We utilise child-friendly facilities, such as forward tees and age-appropriate practice areas, to make the course more accessible and enjoyable for juniors.

Parents will be included in the process, providing them with resources and education so they can support their junior golfer's development.

When juniors are ready for a bit of friendly competition, we introduce them to fun formats like GolfSixes or GolfNines, followed by local events for those who want to try them.

To help juniors become part of the wider club community, we’ll run Scramble events—particularly at the start of the season—with teams made up of a Junior, a Senior, a Lady, and a Male member.

These welcoming formats focus on teamwork and enjoyment rather than scores. In the Clubhouse, juniors will find a dedicated Junior menu and a friendly space where they can relax, including access to the Games Room. Every Junior is encouraged to enjoy the full club experience,
both on and off the course.
